Chapter 12: Salafesh
In book: Bestiary, Vol.1
A slightly more uncommon pet, as they usually can only be found in freshwater ponds, and due to their nocturnal nature, seeing one of them in the wild is even harder. Salafesh is a semi-aquatic salamander-like creature.
While none was seen in the Wastelands, it is believed there may be populations of Salafesh living there.
They can live up to 4 years, reaching full sexual maturity in their sixth month of life, in captivity, they can live up to 10 years old if well taken care of.
Physical Description
- They have dark, slimy bodies, usually black (unless they have the "shiny" mutation).
- Salafesh can only have spots/freckles as markings, usually very colorful and, during mating season or when they want to appear threatening, those spots/freckles can glow, they may also have colored throats, hand webs, and tail paddles that can have markings such as gradients, spots and stripes.
- Their eyes can be any bright color (unless they have the "shiny" mutation).
- All Salafesh have a glowing "lure" attached to their muzzle, used to lure smaller fish as they hide.
- Their back legs are technically useless, considered a trace from when they were possibly fully terrestrial.
- Body length of about 1ft long, and weighs about 2 lbs.
- Males usually have larger tail paddles.
Behaviors
- Piscivore.
- Wary of cors in general.
- As pets, you only can befriend one if you get them at a very young age, they are usually not very affectionate, but have been observed playing with light reflection.
- Can lay up to 3 eggs per mating season.
Maintenance
- They require a good variety of fish and other sea creatures smaller than them.
- Prefer temperate water.
- A cor must have at least a 2L tank if they plan on raising Salafesh, while they are not social, they can live very comfortably with other members of the same species, even the same sex. While they don't necessarily need it, it is still a good idea to have areas where they can rest outside of water.
Habitat
- Sweetwater ponds and rivers.
