Chapter 2: Bloëres
In book: Bestiary, Vol.1
Most common in the east regions of Postinen, due to the colder temperatures all year around, Bloëres is a not-so-usual pet, mostly due to the requirements a cor needs to have in order to be able to own one, being illegal to capture wild ones, unless they have been injured, or orphaned and no longer can be reintroduced to the wild. Bloëres are usually solitary creatures outside their nesting period, where they form monogamous pairs.
Bloëres have been around way before the rising of Postinen, and some wild ones can still be seen in the Wastelands.
In the wild, Bloëres can usually live up to 25 years, reaching full sexual maturity at 3, but in captivity, some have lived as long as 40 years.
Physical Description
- Bloëres can only be found with light-colored feathers, usually light grey, white, or cream (unless they have the "shiny" mutation).
- They all have dark skin and dark antlers, that usually fall during autumn, many cors will use their antlers as decoration. They also have dark beaks.
- Some Bloëres can have any sort of marking found on real-life owls such as solid marks, gradients, tabby, etc.
- Their eyes can be the following colors: Any shade of blue, yellow, orange, and green (unless they have the "shiny" mutation). Their sclera is not visible.
- Bloëres have a wingspan of about 10ft long, reaching about 2ft in height, and weigh about 15 lbs when fully mature.
- Being birds of prey, they have very sharp, and long talons, made for gripping and carrying heavy prey into the skies.
- There is no visible sexual dimorphism between males and females, and both share very similar behaviors, as both help in caring for and raising young.
Behaviors
- Bloëres are omnivores but mostly feed on smaller mammals, reptiles, fish, and fruit.
- Usually very wary of cors in the wild, but extremely curious and smart.
- As pets, they usually form very strong bonds to the cors that raised or rescued them.
- Can have up to 2 eggs per nest.
Maintenance
- Bloëres require a rich diet.
- They also require large aviaries, with a lot of enrichment such as sticks, logs, rocks, vegetation, etc, some cors do prefer to train them to have full access to their home.
- Cutting a Bloëres wing feathers is considered abuse unless for health situations.
- Bloëres have a high prey drive and may not do well with smaller pets.
Habitat
- They usually prefer colder regions, with dense and tall vegetation.
