Chapter 3, Crystallization
In book: The history of Magic
Every corceïs has a natural limit for how far they can push their magic without causing themselves harm.
It is known to be very dangerous to push past your limit, every corceïs has its own limit, which may vary, some may be able to cast a spell for hours without any struggle, while others might need to rest after a few minutes.
In case they accidentally or, willingly, try to push past through their own limit, they might experience:
- Nausea
- Fatigue
- Dizziness
- Drooling
- Blurry vision
Those symptoms may worsen if they continue, and if they do not stop at those signs, they are at high risk of Crystallization.
• What is Crystallization?
It is very simple: the more you force your magic, the larger the crystal within the horn tissue has to grow, but with such a confined space, they begin to crack, sometimes even breaking out of the horn tissue; with the cracks, there is always the chance of such pieces of crystal, that are near invisible to the eye, to get into your bloodstream, and from there spread through your whole body.
By the time the crystal has been exposed, it is considered too late for any reversion.
Crystal may start growing all over the body, usually beginning with the horn; the more magic you use, the more it grows, and eventually, a corceïs may have their entire body encased in crystals.
It has no cure, and once the process starts, one can only avoid using their magic to control the Crystallization; some studies also suggest such disease can be a response to traumatic situations and can be triggered by such.
