COR-045: Caeles's Relationships
Relationship Status: It's Complicated
Caeles first released Zane from prison because she needed the expertise of a criminal to deal with a problem of her own. She didn't expect him to stay long past his obligation. She has grown used to his presence nearby, and very obviously judges anybody who tries to imply it's strange. It *is* strange, obviously, but that is Caeles's business and nobody else's.
Zane is loyal to Caeles to the exclusion of everything else. He owes her a life-debt that he intends to repay at any cost to himself, even that means he will be following her like a shadow for the rest of his life. It isn't necessarily romantic devotion, but it is something beyond what other people would call normal.
Relationship Status: Past Relationship
Caeles met Halley years ago, when they were both living in Callasta. They saw one another on-and-off for the better part of the year, and eventually decided to part amicably; Caeles left to pursue a job at a temple. Sometimes, Halley visits and the two of them go out for tea. Caeles is happy to catch up when he does.
Relationship Status: Past Relationship
Caeles looks back on her relationship with Lochlaena with exasperation more than anything else. She isn't quite sure how she managed to put up with someone twice as vain and self-centered as herself. She hasn't seen him in awhile, and feels a bit bad that she's relieved about it.
Relationship Status: Co-workers
The Duskbringer has Caeles's respect. He is an occasional visitor to Caeles's temple, and she always enjoys conversations with him, but there is always an underlying tension to their interactions: they may *act* friendly, and they can work together fine, but Caeles feels far too scrutinized when they do.
Relationship Status: Acquaintance
Caeles finds Mhina mildly amusing. She met him through Zane and immediately clocked that he was trying to provoke them both, and from that point forward she was happy to play along. She enjoys that neither Mhina nor Zane know how to behave when all three of them are in the room at the same time.
